Sometimes I forget how much I love fall, but every year proves that all it takes is one 60 degree day to remind me.
I think that living in the Midwest or any place that experiences all four seasons teaches people to find the beauty in each. Or else it teaches people just how much they despise cold weather and that there are in fact other locations to live where you never have to worry about the cold again, and I get it. When I went to California for the first time in my adult life, I couldn’t stop saying that it couldn’t ALWAYS be THAT nice, but I was assured multiple times that it was. I imagined my mood if every day the weather was pleasant and yes, it seemed like I would be a lot less susceptible to irritability. But then I thought of what it would be like to celebrate Christmas in 70 degree weather and I wondered if rain in the spring would bring me the same kind of joy as it does after a few months of unchanging gray and cold.
Look, it isn’t for everyone, but being able to find the beauty beyond the unpleasantness of each season is a gift.
