Blue Dress Barn, Benton Harbor, Michigan

Weddings are great. It’s funny that even at my boyfriend’s cousin’s wedding I could still cry when they walk down the aisle. It’s especially hard not to be moved when the groom cries.

Even though I enjoy weddings and even wanted to be a wedding planner before I had ever attended a wedding, I’m thankful not to feel any pressure to get married and that I have a boyfriend who feels the same. When I was growing up, I thought that I would at least be engaged by 25 and now I don’t feel the need to fulfill any kind of timeline. I think growing up in a small town really impacted that thought process but once I moved to a city and started seeing coworkers twice my age perfectly happy living alone, I realized that the timeline I assumed was so normal and accepted wasn’t real. We’re all on our own paths and if your path is marriage in your twenties and babies in your thirties, I’ll be the first to congratulate you. But if your timeline looks different and you can be happy by yourself or with somebody in the meantime, I’ll be just as supportive.

For now, I’ll enjoy attending your weddings, eating all the food, drinking all the drinks, dancing with my handsome partner, and celebrating love in all its forms.
