River Esplanade Park
I feel like the city gets quieter when it gets colder. That’s probably true for a lot of logical and obvious reasons, but I guess I’m more surprised about how fast it happens. As fast as the weather changes, which so far this fall seems very quick, the foot traffic on the streets slows, sirens seem to blare by far less often, and it’s probably just my imagination but the cool air seems to settle over the city.
I will say that one aspect of fall that I don’t appreciate is the looming knowledge that the days are only getting shorter, but I think that longer nights are an important part of the season. I try not to wish away the present by looking too forward to the coming seasons, but fall and winter seem pretty inviting. Remind me of this comment come January and see how I feel.
