Sometimes it’s funny to remember how big the city is compared to my hometown. Just the building that I live in might house the population.
(10 units per floor x 2 people per unit (average))
x 43 residential floors
= 860 people
Ok, so that’s an exaggeration. But that means that 20 buildings the same size as mine would house my entire hometown and there are many more than that just in the River North neighborhood. That’s what I mean when I say that it’s funny.
And what’s even funnier is that even though my hometown is in the same state, it may as well be another country. Politically and most definitely culturally, it is very different from how I grew up. I know that I’m old enough now that some of that difference can be explained because, “times have changed,” but I guess my point is that you don’t always have to go very far to experience something totally different and I am often reminded of that even after living here for years.
