Kathy Osterman Beach
It’s a perfect day in Chicago; about 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. I have a feeling that this would have been a day that my mom would have impulsively come to the city just because of how nice the weather is. She always had the best luck with Chicago’s weather, although it's hard to call it luck because she was very strategic.
Marco and I are acting pretty impulsive today. He asked me what I wanted to do this morning and I said, “Walk, get coffee, be stupid,” and with those words, we got ready and left our apartment. Since then, we have indeed walked, gotten coffee, and been stupid. What more could I ask for?
Marco found street parking and we randomly decided which direction to go. On that street, I looked inside one of those really cute miniature libraries and ended up grabbing a book that caught my eye because I recognized the author. I noticed a sticker on the cover that said “Advanced Reader’s Edition: Not For Sale” and wondered what it meant. Apparently, it’s a somewhat rare copy of the book and I found it by sheer coincidence. Those are the little moments that make me believe that we are always where we’re supposed to be.
