Washington Square Park

I think one of the reasons that I love walking in the city so much is because it requires a certain resourcefulness. It helps to know where you’re going and not just have one way to get there, but several so you can change your mind based on how busy the sidewalks are, how much sun or shade there is, or a certain inkling that leads you to turn right instead of walk straight across the street. There’s also a certain vantage point of walking where you can observe the city and people in it that you can’t get from driving. There are some really cool views of the city that you can only get when you drive, but I feel the same about walking and public transportation.
Maybe it’s just me romanticizing something that is different from where and how I grew up, but maybe that's what we have to do to enjoy the ordinary moments in life.
