Glennon Doyle is an author, speaker, and activist. She was born in Virginia and earned a degree from James Madison University. She became a teacher after graduation and in 2009, began a blog. Her blog gained popularity and she eventually wrote Carry On, Warrior in 2013. Her next book, Love Warrior, was published in 2016 and Untamed was published in 2020. Doyle now produces a podcast called We Can Do Hard Things with her wife and her sister, continues to work with her nonprofit organization called Together Rising, and she lives in California.

Three Words to Describe This Read:
Inspiring- The book makes you feel that maybe you aren’t alone in wanting to change things about yourself, your life, and even society. It was inspiring to think that maybe dozens, hundreds, or thousands of people want the same things that you want and if we could just get ourselves together long enough to pool our power, we just might make some changes.
Fresh- There were a lot of points made throughout the book that opened my eyes. Maybe it isn’t that I had never heard them made before, but the way Doyle was able to communicate them felt new.
Contradictory- If you’re operating under modern religion, it would be easy to call Doyle a hypocrite. She considers herself religious, or at least spiritual, but she is married to a woman. Instead of trying to justify herself, she simply says that people need to be more concerned with their own happiness in their own lives instead of worrying about others’ lives and judging them.
Quote:
“The braver I am, the luckier I get.”
I liked this quote that’s reminiscent of “fortune favors the bold” and generally believe it to be true. It’s difficult for good things to find people who are unwilling to present themselves for opportunities.
